Rwanda's agricultural sector faces unprecedented challenges from climate change, including shifting rainfall patterns and increased temperature variability. Climate-smart agriculture (CSA) offers a pathway to maintaining productivity while building resilience.
Our work with smallholder farmers across Rwanda has demonstrated that integrated approaches combining improved seed varieties, water management techniques, and market access can significantly boost both yields and incomes. Key interventions include conservation agriculture practices, agroforestry systems, and digital extension services.
The results speak for themselves: participating farmers have seen yield improvements of 30-50% while reducing their carbon footprint. These outcomes demonstrate that climate adaptation and economic growth are not mutually exclusive.
